Mercer Union at 40

A trailblazing artist-run centre since 1979, Mercer Union originally formed in response to a lack of opportunity to present cutting-edge contemporary work in Canada and a desire to network with other artists nationally and internationally. Mercer Union has expanded its original remit as a charitable not-for-profit dedicated to the production and presentation of Canadian and international contemporary art. We have exhibited over 1,300 artists since our inception and currently count more than 28,000 annual participants in our programming. We are a launch pad for artists with bright futures.

As a bridge between the artist’s studio and the site of exhibition, Mercer Union enjoys a close relationship with artistic practice not found in other institutions. As a non-profit, artist-run organization, Mercer Union must raise half of our programming and operating revenues in order to assist artists in realizing pivotal projects. With your support, we aim to raise $40,000 to help Mercer Union thrive in 2019 – marking four decades of groundbreaking contemporary art, and many more to come!
