The Canadian Guild

Jim Miller’s installation entitled “The Canadian Guild” indirectly addresses the social-cultural environment by exploring two modes of representation; one, the gallery system, and the other, kitsch. The installation consists of his alteration of “The Canadian Guild” jigsaw puzzle series, as well as slides and puzzle boxes. The specific placement of manipulated puzzles within the larger framework of an art gallery promotes the viewer’s consideration of each mode and its influence on cultural identity.
