Ghostwriter #4

Mercer Union is pleased to present Ghostwriter #4, the fourth in a series of five project room exhibitions which posit art making and writing as interlocked processes. Each exhibition is a collaborative project formed by the fusion of the Ghostwriter/curator and the artist(s) he/she chooses to work with. Each Ghostwriter was selected based on their own visual and written productions, which reflect a diversity of disciplines and communities.

For the Ghostwriter 4 Project Room exhibition, guest curator Andy Fabo has invited four artists to explore themes of gender/identity politics. Charlynn Bedroux & Anne Goldin will exhibit drag king photographs while John McLachlin will produce a site-specific wall map of Toronto cruising areas. Brent Cehan, through computer graphics and collaged calendars, explores realms of national/sexual identities.

Guest curator Andy Fabo, has exhibited collaborative videos, bookworks and installations extensively throughout North America including The Art Gallery of Ontario, the Power Plant and Hall Walls. Charlynn Bedroux & Anne Goldin have produced, curated, directed and collaborated on a number of video projects exploring Lesbian identity and AIDS. Bedroux & Golden are currently working on the Boor Sisters project. Cehan has performed extensively in Toronto and is currently working with computer animation. John McLaughlin is a member of the Spontaneous Combustion collective and the Homogenius collective. In 1996, McLaughlin exhibited at the Museum of Installation Art in London, England and will be exhibiting in two group shows at the museum in 1997.

The Ghostwriter anthology documenting all five Ghostwriter exhibitions will be available by early summer, 1997. Publications are available for purchase.
