The Four Onions launch and reading
“These poems started with food. I was writing down what I talked about most, and I talked a lot about the things I eat and don’t eat. For example, beef jerky vs. eggs. I realize now that food was the beginning because 1) my parents ran a café/diner during my adolescence and 2) I am learning about the relationship between history and the senses.” — Amy Lam
The Four Onions is the first book of poetry by Amy Lam. Join us for a reading by the artist and a discussion about the publication with Yolkless Press founders Areum Kim and Teresa Tam.
Amy Lam would like to acknowledge support for The Four Onions from Annie Koyama & Koyama Provides.
Admission to this online event is free; we encourage you to register in advance. Live captioning will be provided.
Amy Ching-Yan Lam is an artist and writer. She has shown performance, film, and exhibition projects internationally, both solo and as part of the art collective Life of a Craphead (with Jon McCurley, 2006-2020). She was born in Hong Kong and lives in Toronto, Canada, which is the land of the Anishinaabe (Mississauga) nation, as well as the territory of the Wendat and Haudenosaunee.
Yolkless Press is run by Areum Kim and Teresa Tam based in Mohkínstsis/Calgary . This project is based on our shared obsession with objects, plasticity, pedantry, commodity, printed materials, and the frenzy of their circulation. We make artists’ publications, postcards, posters, packaging, pamphlets, and other printed things. We are thinking about the potential of artistic practice and the by-products that can be disseminated in de-centered modes.
SESSION is a project modelling itself after an incubator that invites cultural practitioners to engage with questions that emerge out of a given exhibition.
