Oliver Husain is a filmmaker and artist based in Toronto. Husain’s projects often begin with fragment of history, a rumour, a personal encounter or a distant memory. He uses a wide range of cinematic languages and visual pleasures — such as dance, puppetry, costume, special effects — to animate his research and charm or fold the viewers into complex narrative set-ups. Recent solo exhibitions include Isla Santa Maria 3D at GalleryTPW Toronto and Western Front, Vancouver (2016). The installation was also included at in/future Toronto; in 2017 it was shown at Berlinale Filmfestival forum Expanded, Berlin; Kunstverein Nuremberg; and will be a special project at Art Toronto. Oliver Husain is represented by Susan Hobbs Gallery.
