Dorit Chrysler – Theremin Performance and Workshop

29 July 2007 12am - 12am

Sunday July 29th, 8pm

Invented 1919 by Russian electro physicist Lev Sergejewitch Termen, the Theremin generates sound without being touched. Notoriously hard to play, it is one of the first electronic instruments and inspired the creation of synthesizers in future generations.

Dorit Chrysler made her musical debut at age 7 at the Graz Opera and founded her first music projcect at age 13. At the age of 18 she relocated to New York where she has founded the New York Theremin Society.

“Better than Nancy” Lee Hazelwood exclaimed, after seeing her perform.

Having composed soundtracks for movies (Jesper Just), video games and Sound installations, Dorit released her first solo debut “best of” (Plag Dich Nicht) in 2004, followed by “Tiny Thrills” released in 2005. She currently collaborates with Rodelius (Cluster) Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), JGTHirlwell (Foetus), Elliott Sharp & Amon Tobin & Lary 7. She recently produced an event for the Los Angeles Disney Hall recreating a 10piece Theremin Orchestra to perform a classically arranged repertoire. She has curated events for the Vienna Concert Hall and is currently embarking on an international solo tour bringing her to Australia, Japan, Europe & Canada.

Her live performances show a wide spectrum of pop electronics as well as experimental compositions. “With her Theremin, Samples and Voice , she is reaching neverneverland. The Journey leads, past the cliffs straight into a strawberry field.” Pippilotti Rist

For Mercer Union Chrysler will present a Theremin workshop, followed by a short performance.
