Founded in the fall of 1986 by Dyan Marie and others, Cold City Gallery initiated a new departure in the concept of the artist-run gallery. From its inception it was planned as a commercially viable co-operative where artists joined together to share the gallery not only as an exhibition space, but as a vehicle for introducing work to private and public collections. Cold City continues to offer sustained exposure for its members through rotating exhibitions in a format where the artists represent themselves. Cold City's success can be, in part, attributed to the hard work and commitment of it's directors and member artists, however, it has also depended on the collaboration and support of visitors, artists, curators, other artist-run centres and Canadian galleries to make it the success it is today. Cold City Gallery wishes to acknowledge the support and commitment of Mercer Union for this project, and the Toronto arts community at large.
